Crazy P Curate

The highly respected and much loved doyens of disco Crazy P are curating a brand new series of records for 20/20 Vision. Although originally rooted in disco, the project showcases the band's wide ranging and eclectic musical world, incorporating; Balearic moments, downtempo beats, indie dance and electronica. The concept of the curation is to bring diverse, like-minded artists together and who continue to re-invigorate the disco scene in the spirit of unity, featuring a fine selection of exclusive tracks produced by some of Crazy P’s favourite artists.

The music will be spread over four vinyl records featuring bespoke artwork from Bristol based visual artist Victoria Topping, back illustrating for the band after creating several of their classic covers in the early years. Volume One dropping on November 7th 2022 features a brand new track from the Crazy P called ‘People (We Can Transform)’ sitting alongside a selection of disco dubs and stompers courtesy of Ashley Beedle, LA based alternative indie rock group ASHRR with Felix Dickinson on the remix, and U.S funkateers Change Request & Saucy Lady available via Juno Records.

Speaking on their exclusive track Crazy P say - “People (We Can Transform) was written as Trump was unelected. It was at a heightened time of unrest worldwide - environment debates, political conflicts, racial tensions and mainstream media whipping up a frenzy. Lyrically the words reform and transform were being applied more personally as a call to each other to stop relying on governments and look to each other to create a better world.”

The series will continue to build with three more EPs dropping in January, March and May 2023. Other artists announced at this stage are Ruf Dug, Mancunian synth queen Sarah Bates, post punk band A Certain Ratio, Hardway Bros AKA Sean Johnston, Red Rackem, Italo Disco icons Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi. For the digital and streaming heads, a selection of tracks will be available on DSP and downloads across each drop, and will culminate fully in summer 2023. The releases will also be supported by a series of Crazy P curated events, announced in the new year.

Ralph Lawson - “Crazy P have been an integral part of 20/20 Vision over the years but we hadn’t collaborated for a long time. Although the label is known for electronic music we also love cosmic disco, balearic beats and the wonderful array of eclectic sounds that exist in all shades of music. We felt the time had come again to hold true to our values as we looked to venture back into music with disco roots, and of course Crazy P are the perfect choice having become one of the best loved and most inspirational live dance bands on the planet. It’s been a real joy to work on the series with the band and team all having a really positive attitude to highlight both the importance of established artists that have ploughed their path over decades, but also introduce artists that may well be new for a wider audience.”

Crazy P -The forthcoming EPs are a representation of music we love and in collaboration with Ralph from 20/20 Vision. When faced with the wonderful opportunity of curating this series we decided to explore collectively some of our favourite artists and producers. Some we were familiar with and some we thought would complement the overall vibe, nudging the dynamics of the sounds into something more varied whilst nestling comfortably as a whole.
