2020 Vision Recordings

Playin’ Out is Dubble D proving his worth on the decks as well as in the studio and was inspired in part by his pre-band sets on tour with the 2020Soundsystem.  As the live act went around the world touring their debut album “No Order” in 2006, Dubble D picked up the pre-band DJ job as they constantly found themselves turning up to gigs with no support booked!   He took the challenge up and soon 2020 band mate Ralph Lawson realized he had a unique style that was fresh and exciting.  Dubble D easily managed to mix between hip hop, funk, latin, soul and house and always left it perfect for the Soundsystem to go on. The other inspiration came from spending long hours on the 2020Soundsystem tour bus listening to Jay Dilla's "Donuts”, which brought together a project that made sure Dubble D skirted around the issue of that ‘tricky second album’ with a different route for “Playin’ Out”. This time he has written totally new material, but mixed it to showcase his live talents. 

Playin' Out has tracks which range from the Jay Dilla/Pete Rock influenced "Still Love You" and "Road`" to the heavy P-Funk joints "Hot" and "Skive" to the classic Herbie Hancock inspired "Big Hands". The album then delivers tracks Carl Craig and Theo Parish would be proud of, in "Coleman" and "Wriggle" before ending on a note reminiscent of Groove Armada's "Take me to The River" with "Upper". We think that Danny has well and truly earnt his stripes over the last few years, with his debut album “Reachin’ Out” achieving 5 star reviews and "album of the month" across the board, introducing many to his skills as a producer and collaborator working with internationally renowned artists such as: Flora Purim, Nightmares on Wax, Diane Charlemagne, Kate Rogers and Peter Parker (Fingathing). If “Reachin’ out” set the ball rolling, “Playin’ Out” well and truly keeps it in the air, putting Danny within the ranks of contemporaries such as Mr Scruff, Jazzanova, Nightmares on Wax, and dare we say it, Dilla himself (R.I.P)
