For these releases we’ve brought together two artists who have been involved in pioneering dance music since day one. Random Factor (Carl Finlow) and The Emperor Machine (Andrew Meecham) have been producing innovative music for over a decade under various guises and although they have both taken different musical pathways there are parallels between their influences and the way they make music.
First and foremost a love of sci-fi underlies their creative force, along with the experimental sounds of the BBC Radiophonic workshop and artists such as Raymond Scott, but their production techniques are where the pair have gone in different directions in recent times. Although both started with analogue-based studios, since leaving his farmhouse in Wakefield’s Rhubarb Triangle and moving to Paris, as the title suggests, Carl’s stripped down his room full of Moogs to a totally digital set up in the shape of a G5 and a midi keyboard. Whereas Andrew has become a cosmic, analogue aficionado (he’s a dusty keyboard collector – in the best possible way), experimenting with the other-worldly sounds of synthesizers to create The Emperor Machine. On Digitize he gets deep into his ancient machines for a superb, funky, leftfield disco workout. Like his releases on DC his remixes here are an essential purchase for DJ's of a daring persuasion! And for the less daring DJ, label boss Ralph Lawson has done a stripped down edit that sticks more to a central groove.
