The Youngsters
Gilles Escoffier and Olivier Mateu are two super-talented chaps from Montpellier, who began working together back in 1999, and, by their own admission, win the prize for shortest ‘how we met’ story. Here goes … Olivier took some demos into Gilles’ record shop and they decided to work together. The End. But of course this was only the beginning, the pair quickly began to release Detroit-influenced EP’s for a variety of French labels, including Gilles’ own imprint G-Funk, before they were snapped up by Laurent Garnier’s mighty F-Communications. The Youngsters have produced a vast catalogue of work for F-Comm, including 2 artist albums, alongside work for other well-established labels and a killer live show that they have taken across the globe.
Gilles Escoffier, also known as Gil le Gamin, has been DJing since 1988 and opened his own record shop around 7 years later. It was around this time that he started to produce his own music and had just established his own label G-Funk when he met Olivier M. Olivier is a classically trained pianist with a passion for Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, LFO, and the experimental landscapes of Pierre Henry and Staukhausen. After they met the pair quickly discovered that they were coming form the same place musically and began a partnership that has produced a catalogue of excellent electronic music.
