Mark Broom

Anyone with even a passing interest in electronic music knows that it’s no exaggeration to say that Mark Broom is UK techno royalty. Mark’s name has been at the forefront of the electronic music scene in the UK since the early 90s. A quick check of his impressively spiraling Discogs page reads like a who's who of classic labels, from Cocoon and Mo Wax to Domino.
Anyway, going back to the beginning, it all started in the summer of 89 when Mark stumbled across the delights of the emerging sounds of Chicago and acid house during a holiday to Tenerife, of all places. Returning to the UK, he immediately went in search of this new-found music, bought some turntables, became a regular customer at London’s Fatcat and found himself at the epicenter of a burgeoning scene. In 92, Pete Baby Ford was on the scout for Djs to play at his new Club Night, Nude and after Mark sent him a mix tape he got his first gig. A short time afterwards, he met Ed Handley and Andy Turner from the infamous Black Dog Productions which led to a studio partnership that saw the trio putting together a string of releases for the seminal General Productions Records. It was during the recording of these releases at UXB studios that Mark met the person who was to become his next longstanding production partner. After seeing him come and go from the studio, Dave Hill, who was running UXB at the time, approached Mark about making some music together, which eventually led to the founding of Pure Plastic Recordings in 1994. With the label having played host to some of Mark’s finest work, the release of the classic ‘Angie is a Shoplifter’ LP in 1996 cemented his reputation as a leader in the scene. In 2001, further notable success was scored with the writing of Rue East’s ‘Indoor Culture’ LP alongside Dave Hill, which included the massive techno classic, ‘Birmingham’.
Mark’s services as a DJ, producer and re-mixer have been in high demand over the past two decades and especially right now. He has played around the globe at some of the world’s best clubs, whilst maintaining his reputation as one of techno’s busiest producers with a string of great 12”s and remixes in recent months.
